There is excitement in Enugu APC following the news of the cancellation of the ‘fraudulent primaries’ by the National Leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC. The so-called primaries which excluded Barr. George Ogara Tabugbo with the connivance of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Dan Mallam, failed its undemocratic attempts to sideline the popular aspirant.
Recall that it was earlier reported that in a show of brazen force, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu, CP Dan Mallam and his subordinates, at the Mini Stadium Complex of UNEC Enugu, venue of the APC convention, harassed, intimidated and tear-gassed thousands of delegates and aspirants, and denied them access to the venue, including the front-line contender, Barr. George Ogara Tabugbo (GOT), and threatened to arrest him on trumped up charges without fact.
But the National Leadership of the party has in a quick intervention on Monday, cancelled the Enugu primaries along side that of Adamawa State and has rescheduled it to hold on October 4th. The Acting National Publicity Secretary of APC, Mr. Yekini Nabena, who announced this said that the mode of primaries for Enugu and Adamawa has also been changed from indirect to direct primaries.
This announcement has however disappointed other aspirants who desired indirect primaries. According to sources, it has been revealed that the other APC governorship ticket aspirants had made plans with the PDP-led government to undermine the APC and later negotiate for government positions.
Barrister Ogara went ahead to praise the National Leadership of APC, the state party Leadership and Enugu state APC Leader, Chief Geofrey Onyeama for everything they have done to make sure the state reverts to its earlier plan for a more democratic direct primaries.
