President Muhammadu Buhari and the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, met behind closed doors on Friday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The police Boss was due for retirement on January 3 and will be 60 years old on January 15.
There was no disclosure of the agenda of the meeting. It was not clear whether the President was consulting with the IGP on the recommendations for the next IGP.
However there have been speculation that Mr. President plans to extend his tenure so that he can oversee the security of the February polls, the plans which the Peoples Democratic Party has rejected.
